We're back with a new edition of Whiskey Wednesday with Will. We interviewed Brendan O'Donnell, the CEO of Newport Craft, a few weeks ago, and this week we're here to review their Sea Fog Single Malt Whiskey.
The reason being is I was on a big Manhattan kick last week. It was a rainy chilled evening after a long day of work, and I was craving the cocktail. I opted for the Sea Fog as my whiskey, and it did not disappoint. I kept the train going into the weekend. It was a big hit for not only myself, but a few friends visiting.
Enough about the Manhattan's (which you can find my special recipe below), let's kick things off with the review.
Sea Fog Single Malt Whiskey
This single malt American Whiskey was created by Newport Craft. It's a unique blend of a 7-year and 8-year barrel, with notes of smoke, vanilla, caramel and oak. It's finish is generous in body, with a sweeter vanilla finish and a bold smooth finish, in my opinion. The flavors match the brand of Newport Craft, with ties to the the seas, as well as the barrel finish with their rum and beer ties.
The blend is well renowned and award winning, with Whisky Advocate rated it 89 points for generous body and special qualities, and USA Spirit Ratings awarding it a 89 Silver Medal.
The price point on average is $50
Will's Review
By far this is one of my favorite whiskeys on the market, and I am fortunate enough to have easy access to it in the Ocean State. It's smooth enough to be appreciated on it's own, but flavorful enough to be included in any cocktail you're trying to craft. The combination of smoke, vanilla, caramel and oak is fantastic for both smell and taste.
4.75 out of 5.0 for me. Would highly recommend
