Covering doesn't win games. A close one against the Chiefs leaves fans angry with Joe Judge.

What I hate about this loss the most is that this will be the game that fires up the Chiefs and turn their season around. Coming in, this was the Chiefs game to lose. 10 point underdogs, heading to Kansas City, injuries piled up high, everyone was all out on the G-Men. Rightfully so.

However, the Monday Night matchup was promising for the Giants. The Giants HAD a chance to win this game. They were IN this game until the end. PENALTIES killed the Giants. Joe Judge KILLED the Giants. Nationally televised game and the Giants come up short.

Chiefs 20, Giants 17

I won't make excuses for the Giants loss, but the refs in this one were terrible. A phantom facemask call in the ending of the fourth quarter was out-of-pocket and uncalled for. The only positive of the night was one, the Giants covered +10, and two, the Manning brothers dominated the game once again.

Key Takeaways

Joe Judge does not understand the assignment

Terrible clock management, lackluster effort, awful play calling, you name it. The knife in the gut came at the end of fourth quarter. With no timeouts, he for some idiotic reason wasted a precious 40 seconds. I mean, what are we doing here? My Madden controller would be through the TV. I am starting to question if he is fit to be an NFL head coach...

Hats off to the defense

Patrick Graham however understood the assignment. The Chiefs Achilles heel this season has been turnovers, and the defense capitalized on this opportunity. They had a huge interception at the goal line to start the game, plus a key fumble recovery that shifted the momentum for the Giants. All-in-all, they held Mahomes to 275 yards on 29-for-48 passing. The Chiefs only rushed for 107 yards total. Adorre Jackson and Logan Ryan held it down in the secondary and Leonard Williams sacked the unsackable. The Chiefs were just 5-of-12 on third down, averaged just 4.8 yards per play.

This isn't Daniel Jones' fault

I am over the Daniel Jones haters. He kept the game close, despite losing (yet again) three receivers at one point. Sterling Shepard, Dante Pettis, and Kadarius Toney all left the game at one point. It's comical the injuries that are taking place with this team. Daniel Jones completed 22-of-32 passes for 222 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Jason Garrett's offense was sluggish, they should've been eager to take shots, especially on third downs.

He is capable of leading this team and he is capable of winning games. Between the BS calls from refs, the incompetent coaching staff, a wiped out offensive core, and a pitiful excuse of an offensive line, no quarterback in this league could put together a winning drive. Daniel Jones is capable of leading a winning team. But put any QB up against the refs and his own coaching staff, with a wiped out WR corps and a dumpster fire O-line, and you’re not gonna win football games.

The penalties were gut wrenching

There were plenty of mistakes that cost the game, but the one that takes the case is the offside by Oshane Ximines. The Giants were up and the Chiefs were scrambling to take the lead. Mahomes tosses one downfield and Darnay Holmes read the pass perfecting, leaping for the Giants second interception. The officials then buzzed New York for an offsides penalty, reversing the turnover, and allowing the Chiefs to drive right down the field.

Evan Engram apology game, plus trade value booster

It was minuscule play, but Engram still scored a touchdown. What was nice about him tonight was that he didn't cost the Giants the win because of a drop or fumble. Kyle Rudolph is the true TE1 and I wish Engram panned out. I hope he can on this team, push him out as a wide receiver, use him, do something. If the Giants do want to get some draft capital, I expect Evan Engram to be one of the top targets to trade for. It's a shame, I like him and when he's on he is lethal, but something clearly has to give.

Next Game

The Rrrrraiders head to MetLife for the week 9 matchup. They are coming off a bye and are 2-0 under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia (the ultimate "foxhole guy". I'd like to chalk this one up as a win, but I'm numb right now. Joe Judge is falling off my trust tree. This was an awful way to lose against a good team. I guess it depends on who comes back from the IR and injury report, and who doesn't get traded at the deadline...
