DMV Star of the Week - Elena Delle Donne

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Washington Mystics Forward Elena Delle Donne.

For the second time in four weeks, the star player for Washington’s WNBA team has earned the DMV Star of the Week award.

In three games this past week, Delle Donne scored an average of 18.5 PPG, pouring in 17 point, 20 point and 17 point performances, respectively.

In those games, Washington went 2-1 to improve its record and move to 7-4 in this young WNBA season.

The 33-year old Delle Donne is averaging just over 18 PPG this year to go along with 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 48% from the field.

The DMV saw four teams in action this past week, including the Washington Nationals, D.C. United, Washington Spirit, and Washington Mystics

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • The Washington Spirit engineered a massive comeback win on Sunday against Kansas City. After falling behind 2-0, Washington came back with goals from Ashely Sanchez, Paige Metayer and then Tara McKeown in the 87’ to win it 3-2 and move atop the NWSL standings.
