Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”
This week’s DMV Star of the Week Award goes to Washington Nationals left fielder James Wood.
The 22-year old Wood had a monster week for the Nats this past week, making his mark with 4 home runs across six games, including two dingers in Tuesday’s 8-2 win over the Dodgers.
On the week, Wood went 7-21 at the plate (.333 average) with 8 walks, 7 runs scored, 8 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, and those 4 home runs.
On the week, Washington went an even 3-3, taking two out of three games from the defending world champions Dodgers before falling on Saturday and Sunday to the Marlins after defeating Miami on Friday night.
The Nats are off to a 6-9 start on the young season and continue the road trip this week with four games in Pittsburgh and three games in Colorado against the Rockies.
The DMV saw five teams in action this past week, including the Washington Nationals, Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, Washington Spirit, and D.C. United.
Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
Washington Nationals 1B Josh Bell had 5 RBI’s in five games this past week, including 2 RBIs in Friday’s win over Miami.
The Washington Capitals clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a 5-4 shootout win over Carolina on Thursday night.
