DMV Star of the Week - Jayden Epps

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Georgetown guard Jayden Epps.

Following a monster performance against American in Georgetown’s overtime win, in which Epps scored 31 points and lifted the Hoyas to victory, the sophomore transfer from Illinois dazzled once again on Saturday against Jackson State.

In the Hoyas 88-81 win over the Tigers, Epps scored 34 points on 10-18 shooting, including 7-9 from three, dished out 4 assists, grabbed 4 rebounds, and blocked a shot in 36 minutes on the floor.

He has now scored in double figures in all but the Hoyas opening game of the season.

His back-to-back 30+ point outputs have equaled the amount of 30+ point games by any Georgetown player since the start of the 2019-2020 season (Jahvon Blair & Primo Spears).

Just six games into his Georgetown career, it’s looking like Epps is one heck of a transfer secured by Ed Cooley in his first season as head coach.

The DMV saw nine teams in action this past week, including the Washington Commanders, Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, the Maryland football team, and the Maryland, Howard, Georgetown, George Washington, and American basketball teams

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • George Washington’s Maximus Edwards scored 22 points and added 13 rebounds in GW’s heroic 2OT win over Ohio on Friday

  • Howard Forward Seth Towns had 26 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s win over Mount St. Mary’s

  • Washington Commanders Quarterback Sam Howell threw for 300 yards and ran for a touchdown in Washington’s loss to Dallas on Thanksgiving

  • Georgetown Forward Dontrez Styles scored 22 points in both of Georgetown’s last two games, including this past week’s victory over Jackson State

  • Maryland Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa threw for 361 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Terps 42-24 win over Rutgers on Saturday

  • Maryland Forward JuJu Reese had 15 points and 13 rebounds in the Terps win over UMBC on Tuesday, following up the performance with 19 points and 15 rebounds in the win over South Alabama on Saturday
