DMV Star of the Week - JuJu Reese

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Maryland Basketball Forward JuJu Reese

Reese is a multi-time Star of the Week and the award is more than deserved after back-to-back double doubles in both of Maryland’s wins this week, including the biggest win of the year for the Terps so far on the road against #10 Illinois on Sunday.

First, in Thursday’s win over Michigan in College Park, Reese had 14 points, 13 rebounds, 5 blocks, 3 steals, and 2 assists in a stat sheet stuffing performance.

Three days later, the Terrapins hit the road for their toughest test away from home of the year against 10th ranked Illinois.

In the game, Reese scored 20 points and hauled in 11 rebounds while dishing out 2 assists, and forcing 3 steals.

Maryland has struggled at times this year but has now won 7 of its last 9 games.

Looking ahead, the Terps take on Northwestern on the road before Sunday’s home game against Michigan State.

A few more wins and Kevin Willard’s team will be right back in the mix for an NCAA Tournament bid.

The DMV saw seven teams in action this past week, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the Maryland, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, and American basketball teams

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • Wizards Forward Deni Avdija scored 19 points, hauled in 14 rebounds, and dished out 9 assists in Washington’s 127-99 win over Atlanta on Saturday

  • Georgetown Forward Supreme Cook had a double-double in Sunday’s loss @ #4 UConn, scoring 18 points and bringing in 13 rebounds

  • Wizards Forward Kyle Kuzma scored 22 points and hauled in 15 rebounds, while dishing out 5 assists in Washington’s 136-128 loss to Oklahoma City on Monday
