DMV Star of the Week - Trinity Rodman

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman.

The Spirit finished in second-to-last place in 2022, concluding the worst season in franchise history.

The squad opened up 2023 on Sunday at Audi Field with a 1-0 victory over the defending NWSL champions, OL Reign.

It was the lone goal by the Spirit’s Trinity Rodman in the 54th minute that was the difference.

“The Spirit of last year would have lost this game 3-1,” said Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury after the win.

The 20-year-old Rodman is already in her third season in the NWSL with the Spirit and has now scored 17 goals for Washington in her career. She has also registered 15 appearances for the United States National Team as one of the best young players for the U.S.A.

A long way to go, but for a team that won just three games in 22 attempts last season, it’s a pretty good start!

The DMV saw six teams in action this past week, including the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, D.C. United and Washington Spirit along with the D.C. Defenders XFL team and Washington Nationals at Spring Training

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • D.C. United striker Christian Benteke scored his third goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to New England

  • D.C. Defenders quarterback Jordan Ta’amu was 19/31 for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns in Monday night’s 37-26 win over Houston
