So... can everyone come to the agreement that Providence is legit?
Coming in as 8.5 point underdogs, the Friars continue to impress this season, rolling into the Cintas Center and shocking the home town No.21 Xavier Musketeers 65-62. First off, 8 point dogs is quite disrespectful. Second, this team is so talented from top to bottom. 22 points from Al Durham tonight, along with Jared Bynum's 16 plus his game closing three to bring Providence on top.
“Well, everybody’s saying we’re lucky. Hey, I guess we are. *winks*… “This group is a blast to coach. The level of composure we have late in a game is really, really special. This is one of the best wins for me as a coach.” - Coach Ed Cooley via John Fanta
They move to 17-2 this season and a first place 7-1 in the Big East. The last time the Friars had this good of a 19-game start was back in 1976-77. Ed Cooley... The American Dream.
It's been a season of great milestones this go around. Friars improve to 3-0 vs ranked teams this season. They have multiple Q1 wins, including some nice ones against Texas Tech and Wisconsin. They are sitting pretty at No.17 in the AP Top 25 Poll. Ed Cooley captured his 300th win as a Head Coach, and 200th as a Friar. They are running rampant in the Big East, and a sure lock to make it back to the Big Dance for the first time since 2018. All is well in FriarTown.
By the way... when our friend John Fanta is in the building, the Friars are undefeated. Might be wise to elect him Mayor of Providence ASAP.
