It's over! It's over! Knick fans this is not a dream. Your long, long wait has ended. Go ahead and cry, after 53 years the Knicks are finally NBA champions once again. - Mike Breen
I am still in utter shock and disbelief that this is reality. Nearly two weeks removed from winning it all, it all still feels like a dream. The New York Knicks are NBA champions for the first time in 53 years.
They reached the mountaintop with a resiliency and determination that we may never see from an NBA team again. The number of times they stormed back from a deficit, usually punctuated by the likes of Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby hitting a massive shot, is unfathomable. They fought and clawed through every game of the playoffs, and their determination led to a new reality for the Knicks: champions.
The Larry O'Brien Trophy finally makes its way to New York City*. Knicks fans, keep soaking it all up for as long as you can. This summer is ours to celebrate. Do not let anyone (cough cough, Boston and Philly fans) take that away from you, because your team is officially etched in history.
In recent memory, we painfully watched this franchise try to keep its head above water. We were the laughing stock of the NBA for many years. Two separate 17-65 seasons just four years apart, and not a single No. 1 pick to show for it. Absolute agony.
But now, this 2025–2026 Knicks team goes down as one of the best to ever do it. They lost just three times in the entire playoffs, refusing to back down from a fight every single night. They earned the right to hoist the Larry O, and they finally did it.
I'm not going to dive into the stats or analysis of the Finals against the Spurs. This team's play speaks for itself. Just like you, faithful reader, I am still basking in the glory of being a world champion. Knicks fans, revel in the immense happiness this team has brought us, not only for the summer ahead, but for generations to come.
Go, New York! Go, New York! Go!
*Despite winning two titles in 1970 and 1973, the Knicks did not win the Larry O'Brien Trophy until 2026. Prior to 1977, the NBA Champion was awarded the Walter A. Brown Trophy.
