Met Life: Did the Giants lose because of injuries or sloppy play?

That was disappointing to say the least. The Giants are a case study. One day clutch, next day lost. I won't discredit the Lions here, they are a gritty team. They know how to punch at you and never make it easy. They also know how to cover spreads. So congrats to the Lions, they outplayed the GMen, but at the end of the day, the Giants should have won.

At least this team doesn't accept defeat in their minds. Their culture has changed and the team knows that this game doesn't define who they are. Daniel Jones said after the game, “I think we’re all already anxious to get this taste out of our mouths and come back and play a much better football game,”. I couldn't agree more.

So what happened?

The offense couldn't get it going, despite 300+ yards from Daniel Jones. The windy conditions and lackluster offensive line caused Daniel Jones to be unsettled, throwing 2 interceptions, which were his first since Week 3. Saquon Barkley was shut down. The Lions have the worst ranked rushing defense, and they held Barkley to 22 yards.

Adding to the sloppiness, Isaiah Hodgins lost a fumble. The three turnovers led to 10 points for the Lions. It pretty much took them out of the game.

The defense struggled against the run, allowing Jamaal Williams to score three times. When the top corner, Adoree Jackson, went down with a knee injury on a punt return (sigh), the defense had to adjust. It didn't bode well. The special teams unit was shaky. Graham Gano, who was sick, missed two extra point.

Some positives though came from the offense. Wan'Dale Robinson eclipsed 100 yards on 9 receptions. Slayton continues to become a dependable target, catching 5 passes for 86 yards. Heck, even Kenny Golladay had two catches for 29 yards.

Next Game

It's not going to get an easier. The Giants have a short turnaround, as they'll face the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Yes, that's the same Cowboys team that just pieced the dominant Vikings 40-to-3.

We just watched five starters leave the game with injuries (RT Tyre Phillips - Neck, Center Jon Feliciano - Neck, Wan"dale Robinson - Knee, Cornerback Fabian Moreau - Ribs, and Adoree Jackson - Knee). Five. There is already a long laundry list of injuries, so I am not optimistic.

At 7-3, they have not lost back-to-back games all season but they will be undermanned going into this game.
