The Giants were active to kick off the Harbaugh era.
The NFL's legal tampering window opened at noon on Monday, just ahead of free agency's true opening on Wednesday. Like every other team around the league, the New York Giants made a few moves to bolster both sides of the ball heading into 2026.
Who did the Giants sign in the opening hours of free agency this year, and what do they bring to the table in East Rutherford?
Who did they sign?
The Giants were active at the start of free agency. Here are all of the moves they made on March 9th:
TE Isaiah Likely signed a 3-year, $40 million dollar deal. He is 25, and after a down year in 2025, he'll look to bounce back in a big way with a new team but familiar coach in John Harbaugh.
LB Tremaine Edwards signed a 3-year, $36 million dollar deal. He replaces recently cut Bobby Okereke as the run stopper up the middle. He is a massive, 6-5, 250+ lb human who should quickly bring serious force to the linebacker position. He slots in as the guy who will most likely wear the green dot.
P Jordan Stout signed a 3-year, $12.3 million deal making him the league's highest paid punter. He's coming off a season where he averaged 44.5 yards per punt and made his first Pro Bowl.
OL Jermaine Eluemunor signed a 3-year, $39 million deal to return to the Giants. This might have been one of the biggest signings for the Giants, as this fortifies the right side of their offensive line. He pairs with All-Pro Andrew Thomas to make up one of the best tackle duos in the league.
My Reaction
Solid all-around. The Giants entered 2026 free agency ranked 16th in cap space with about $22 million to work with. They addressed multiple positions that needed depth and did not go overboard. For example, a guy like Tyler Linderbaum would have been a piece for years to come, but the Giants simply could not afford him. They knew this and strategically did not funnel all of their resources to one player. Instead, the Giants pivoted and invested into a couple of Harbaugh guys and starting-caliber players. These are all high-impact guys at each of their respective positions.
I'm glad they didn't reach and sign Kenneth Walker III or Mike Evans to hefty contracts. The Giants were connected to both and even put in an offer to Walker. It's great getting playmakers like that, but the Giants have young running backs in Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr., and can prioritize a wide receiver in the first or second round of this year's draft.
Overall grade to start free agency: A
The Giants made strategic moves that kicked off the Harbaugh era in a meaningful way. They probably aren't done either, with smaller moves to come to help provide even more depth on both sides of the ball and possibly special teams.
