I am starting to run dry on some takes and rankings, so I poured myself a night cap and got the juices flowing. Ironically enough, I thought to myself, "why not rank alcohol", so we will go with the Top 5 Spirits power ranked. Technically, Brandy and Cognacs should be on the list, but I am sticking with the basic five.
5. Rum
Rum is an interesting case, because is it spicy or sweet? I classify rum as a sticty summer drink, and associate it with Mai-Tai's and Dark and Stormy's. Very flavorful, but pigeonholed to only a few months out of the year.
4. Vodka
Vodka is probably higher on a lot of people's lists, but to me, it's bland. It's the alcoholics choice because it packs a punch and gets you to where you need to be. Nothing super crazy about Vodka to be honest, but there's a reason why Tito's is the highest selling liquor in the US.
3. Tequila
Unless you are The Rock, does anyone actually enjoy Tequila? It's the ultimate "order at the bar for your buddies and everyone pretends to enjoy knocking them back" drink that is over hyped and expensive. Every celebrity has a tequila brand now, and that's one of the reason why it's smack dab in the middle. Not my favorite, but game respects game.
2. Gin
A sleeper number two pick, but it deserves to be in the conversation. If I polled our parents generation, they'd put Gin up here, but us younger folk? Forget about it. Nobody drinks Gin anymore and it's a shame. There's something about the taste, the type of drunk, the combination with tonic, it's a delightful drink. Also, they don't call them Gin and Tondo's for nothing.
1. Whiskey
Smooth as Tennessee Whiskey. I am a big brown liquor guy. Bourbon, Scotch, Whiskey, you name it. It's one of the purest forms of alcohol that you can consume straight up, on the rocks, you name it. I think out of all of the spirits on the market, whiskey is the best tasting, provides you the most variety on a distilled level, and offers versatility.
