Tales of the Titans: Defense comes up clutch once again, as Tennessee sweeps Indy.

Happy National Tight Ends Day to everyone far and wide! Also, today was the annual Titans sweep of the Colts day! For the 2nd time in 3 weeks, the Tennessee Titans punched their division rival, the Indianapolis Colts in the mouth, and swept them for the 2nd straight year. It marks the 5th time in 6 meetings that the Titans have won. I don’t understand these so-called experts convincing the NFL world that the Colts will win the division every year. It just doesn’t make sense. The Titans run the South.

Game Observations

This offense is awful. But it doesn’t matter. The defense is so good. Week in and week out, they come to the stadium, ready to play, and shut down the opposing offense. They scored the only touchdown for the Titans, on an Andrew Adams pick-6.

On the next drive, star linebacker, and week-5 hero, David Long Jr intercepted Matt Ryan again. The offense was able to muster enough yards for 4 Randy Bullock field goals. Is that going to win games vs. the Chiefs or Bills? No, but a win is a win, and if you get enough of them, you make the playoffs, and there, anything can happen. The offense desperately needs a big play threat. As much as I hate to say it, but Derrick Henry isn’t the same explosive threat that he was the last couple of years, but he can still get the job done. What hurts the most is no Treylon Burks, and Todd Downing being an absolute dunce. THERE IS NO NEED TO RUN A JET SWEEP TO YOUR BACKUP QB, AFTER DERRICK HENRY JUST GOT 2 STRAIGHT CHUNK PLAYS. That's just flat-out idiotic, and you can blame Malik Willis all you want for him fumbling the handoff, but this is just a stupid play call. There is no need to do that. A good sign was the presence of tight end Austin Hooper. He was nonexistent early in the year, but was utilized on his special day, and had 3 grabs for 56 yards, including this amazing clutch grab:

Stats and Fantasy

Ryan Tannehill - 13/20, 132 yards, 0 TD’s, 0 INT’s, 6.6. - 3.88 fantasy points

Tannethrill wasn't Tannethrill, but he is a solid game manager. Don't add him to your team though.

Derrick Henry - 30 carries, 128 yards, 0 TD’s, 4.3 avg. - 16.80 fantasy points

You probably can't get Derrick on your team by now, but he is definitely heating up.

Austin Hooper - 3 catches, 56 yards, 0 TD’s, 18.7 avg. - 8.60 fantasy points

Hoop had a nice day, and is a solid depth piece, but I would wait another week to see if he is still utilized before adding him.

Titans Defense - 10 pts. allowed, 2 INT’s, 1 fumble recovery - 19.00 fantasy points

If you can pick up the boys in two-tone-blue. I just submitted a waiver claim for them as a matter of fact.

Randy Bullock - 4/4 field goals, 1/1 PAT, 48 long, 13 total pts. - 13.00 fantasy points

Fat Randy is actually a good asset, as the Titans offense kicks a lot of field goals, and has a decent red zone rate (when we get there).

Final Thoughts

The defense is a special unit, and should be remembered forever in Titans' history. Yes, they are that good. They have won every single game for Tennessee. Get used to me saying “A win is a win” since that's going to happen every week. I love Tanney and I love the toughness he showed when he came back after his ankle injury, but he and Todd shouldn’t be back next year. Overall a gritty win that gives us a huge leg up in the division, and it was even sweeter to get it done at home, and on Oilers Homecoming Weekend.

What’s Next

For week 7, Tennessee travels to Huston to play the struggling Texans, which is a big game for the Titans to get another division win, but also to gain ground in the AFC as well. The Tannehill injury is a big one to monitor, as he was seen in the locker room limping and in a walking boot. If he is out next week, rookie Malik Willis will make his first career start. Until then, TitanUp.
