Trumpets ain't going anywhere! Edwin Diaz resigns with Mets on 5 year, 102 million deal

We have come a long way since the "Edlose Diaz" era. I officially retired the nickname last year, but I had to bring up this tweet one last time:

Makes me laugh every time. However, that's in the past. Now we celebrate Edwin Diaz and his successes last season. He earned this money and I'm elated he will be around for the next 5 years. His extension is 5 years, $102 (!!!!) million. There's an opt out and a full no trade clause plus a sixth year option in.

This deal is the first nine figure contract ever for a closer and for the first time, it takes the position into the 20+ million range. Diaz made 10 million this year and he obviously earned this big payday. He was dominant last year with 32 saves, a 1.31 ERA, and 118 strikeouts. Looking past those incredible numbers, he also made baseball fun again. The "Trumpets" entrance became a staple within the sports world and turned many heads of people who don't usually watch baseball.

Let's watch the epic entrance again because it is so cool every single time. There were a lot of good ones this year, however I believe the entrance against the Braves was the best. Everything went downhill after the live Timmy Trumpet performance, so I do not like that one.

In my opinion, I do think this is a lot of money for a closer, however when your owner is worth is 16 billion, there is no such thing as an overpay.

I'm overall very happy EdWIN is back and he will be around for the next 5!

LFGM!
