"Beers, Business and Balls" Summer Six Pack: 2023 Edition

The last week of June means that summer is officially here! The ship has sailed on a real six pack (maybe next summer, I tell myself yet again), but there's never a bad time to assemble an elite six pack of craft beer.

One of our first blogs of the BBB/House Enterprise era was the Summer Six Pack, all the way back in July 2020. Summer brings out the best in the beer community: IPA's, lagers, sours, seltzers, and more innovative styles than we even knew existed. This year, we polled our House community to contribute their ideal summer beers. It's certainly a mix of styles and palates, but it's definitely a six pack that I'd be more than happy to have in my fridge.

Without further ado, we present our Beers, Business and Balls Summer Six Pack: 2023 Edition.

  • Style: Fruited Sour

  • ABV: 8%

  • Available regionally

From Jake: "As a sour casual myself, it takes a lot to impress me. But one sip of Club Paradise (Rum Runner) from Columbus, Ohio's own Hoof Hearted Brewing Company had me questioning my summer beer tastes for good. I am a sucker for the cherry-lime flavor combo, and this basically had all of that and more. Hoof Hearted calls this a Tiki Sour with lime, pineapple, blood orange, and blackberry. It certainly packs a punch at 8%, but it drinks more like a fruited lager or APA. Kicking back, relaxing at the pool, and enjoying a few of these sounds like a fantastic summer day to me."

Will Tondo's Selection

Dirtysundays: Blue Raspberry – Providence Brewing Company (Providence, RI)

  • Style: Fruited Sour

  • ABV: 4%

  • Only available on-site

From Will: "Our friends at Providence Brewing have done it again. The bright blue DirtySundays Blue Raspberry is one of my top beers for summer 2023. This fruited sour is twice blended with raspberry and blueberry fruit purees, coconut cream, vegan vanilla soft serve, and Hawaiian hibiscus sour ipa. Available in cans and draft, as well as in slushee form. Not only is it creative, it’s the perfect thirst quencher and refreshing for the dog days of the summer."

Chris Hanold's Selection

DayTime IPA – Lagunitas Brewing Company (Petaluma, CA)

  • Style: Session IPA

  • ABV: 4%

  • Available nationwide

From Chris: "Perfect for IPA fans who don’t want something heavy and bitter on a hot summers day, the low alcohol content mixed with the fizzy mouthfeel and sweet flavor makes this IPA perfect for any pool-side event, beach day, or just leisurely sailing out on the boat."

Tommy Godin's Selection

Philly Standard Orange – Yards Brewing Company (Philadelphia, PA)

  • Style: Golden Ale with Orange

  • ABV: 4.5%

  • Canned and distributed regionally

From Tommy: "The official Yards Brewing website describes Philly Standard orange as “a beer that works just as hard as you do”, and that is exactly what this beer is. It’s not going to win any awards for being the best craft beer, but it is the perfectly mature version of the bud light citrus series you stole from your dads garage fridge in high school. Light, crisp, easy to drink, Philly Standard Orange is the perfect beer to enjoy on the beach, after mowing your lawn, on the links with the boys or really anywhere where the sun is shining."

Matt St. Jean's Selection

Summer Love – Victory Brewing Company (Downingtown, PA)

  • Style: Golden Ale

  • ABV: 5.2%

  • Canned and distributed regionally

"First of all, just look at this can. It SCREAMS summer and fits the aesthetic perfectly. This beer is hoppy, but not too hoppy, delivering wonderful flavor and a smooth aftertaste that ensures you're reaching back into the cooler for another one in no time. From the beach to the ballpark to the barbecue, this is my go-to summer beer."

Clubfoot Jim's Selection

Crunchy Roll – Alvarium Beer Company (New Britain, CT)

  • Style: Japanese Rice Lager

  • ABV: 4.1%

  • Canned and distributed regionally

From Clubfoot Jim: "Crunchy Roll is a unique, Japanese-style lager brewed by Alvarium Beer Co. The use of sorachi ace hops and brown rice creates a refreshing and crisp flavor perfect for summer drinking. With a light ABV of 4.1%, Crunchy Roll is my go-to beverage on a hot summer day."

Other thoughts from the crew:

Josh Burton: Heineken is the GOAT for me.

Trevor Everette: Summer related, I have to go Corona Light (watching the calories) with a lime in all 6 (or 12)

Jordan Laube: Does twisted tea count? My baby taste buds hate beer.

Sara Kiernan: Tweas are great but my top choice is Corona!

Chris Thedinga: *submitted a pic of Naturday's*

Eddie Szalan: The correct answer is Modelo

Thomas Cavanagh: Blue Moon
