Breakfast with the Americans. Day 1 Proper; Opening Ceremony, Nathan Chen shines in opener, and more

And we're off! The opening ceremonies have concluded, and Beijing does it again with an incredible performance and a beautiful display of country representation. I think this one of the best ceremonies in all of sports, and I always enjoy waking up early to watch it.

On the first official day of the Olympics, the House gets you caught up on everything you may have missed while you were asleep, including Nathan Chen's record breaking Short Program Figure Skating performance.

What You've Missed

The United States flag bearers were 2018 Olympic Gold Medalist and 5-time Olympic Curler John Schuster and Olympic Bronze Medalist Speed Skater, Brittany Bowe. Decked to the nines in warm Ralph Lauren, Team USA comes out looking like they can capture the most medals in the competition for another year.

Team USA got off to with the bang in figure skating. 2018 Bronze Medalist, Nathan Chen, opened up and skated a career best 111.71 in the men's short program, putting the United States in front and earning 10 points.

Talk about synchronicity... Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue performed quite well in their rhythm dance to Janet Jackson, scoring a 86.56.

The 10-team event will continue on Sunday, with the ROC currently favored to win the gold. However, the way the US has started, don't be surprise if they can sneak in on top. After day one, the U.S. leads with 28 points, followed by the ROC with 26 and China with 21.
