CLINCHED. The New York Mets punch their ticket to the postseason. The buzz is back in Queens!

Just one measly year ago, the New York Mets were out of playoff contention, they sold off the likes of Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, Jacob deGrom was on his way to winning a World Series ring with another team, and Mets fans were told to look toward 2025 for the next time the team would compete.

September 30th, 2024, the New York Mets pull off one of the most thrilling victories in franchise history to clinch a National League Wild Card spot over the hated rival Atlanta Braves.

Things looked bleak for the Mets for a few days. Hurricane Helene stormed through Atlanta, MLB told the Mets and Braves that they would have to play a doubleheader one day before the postseason started while the Arizona Diamondbacks waited in the wings. Francisco Lindor went down with an injury, Francisco Alvarez twisted his back, the Mets dropped two out of three in Milwaukee and the Amazin' faithful were in full panic mode.

Win one and you're in, win none and you're out. I think we all know what happened next. An instant classic.

The Mets and Braves still have one more game to play today as part of this doubleheader. If the Mets sweep, Atlanta's season is over and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in the playoffs, while New York goes on to play San Diego tomorrow night for Game 1 of the Wild Card series. If the Braves take Game 2, Arizona's season is over and the Mets fly to Milwaukee for a 5:30 first pitch tomorrow evening.

Tonight's Game 2 kicks off at 4:40 on ESPN 2 and SNY
