Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”
This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Washington Spirit Forward Ashley Hatch.
The 27-year old Hatch scored her team-best fifth goal of the season in Saturday’s win over Angel City.
The goal for Washington came in stoppage time in the 94th minute as the Spirit stole a victory on the road in Los Angeles.
The Spirit now sit with a record of 4-3-0 and remain undefeated in the NWSL regular season.
Not only does Hatch lead the team in goals, she leads all of the NWSL, having scored five goals in just seven games.
The Spirit sit atop the NWSL standings and are one of the clear favorites to stay there.
The DMV saw four teams in action this past week, including the Washington Nationals, D.C. United, Washington Spirit and the D.C. Defenders XFL team.
Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
D.C. Defenders wide receiver Josh Hammond had 6 receptions for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 35-26 heartbreaking loss in the XFL Championship Game
