DMV Star of the Week - Tom Wilson

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week Award goes to Washington Capitals Winger Tom Wilson

After scoring twice in the opening round series of the NHL Playoffs against Montreal, Wilson led the Capitals with two points in Thursday night’s crucial Game 2 victory over Carolina.

First, Wilson assisted on a goal early in the third period by John Carlson to put Washington ahead 2-0.

Later in the period, Wilson capped off the Capitals’ victory with an empty net goal with a minute remaining to seal the 3-1 win and tie the series at 1-1.

The Caps lost Game 3 in Carolina which sets up a crucial Game 4 on Monday night before Game 5 back in D.C. on Thursday night and a potential Game 6 in Raleigh on Saturday.

The DMV saw five teams in action this past week, including the Washington Nationals, Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics, Washington Spirit, and D.C. United.

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • Washington Spirit Forward Gift Monday scored the game-winning goal for the Spirit in Saturday night’s win over Chicago, netting her third goal of the year in the 83rd minute to win the game.
