DMV Star of the Week - Esme Morgan

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week Award goes to Washington Spirit Defender Esme Morgan.

In Friday night’s back-and-forth heartbreaking loss to Angel City FC, Morgan was one of the few bright spots for the Spirit, scoring two of Washington’s three goals in a 4-3 thriller at Audi Field. 

The two goals are the first Morgan has ever scored for the club, scoring her first in the 30’ and her second in the 89’ to tie the game before Angel City stole victory with a 98’ minute goal to win it 4-3. 

The loss drops the Spirit to 4-0-3 on the year and all the way down to sixth place in the NWSL standings.
