Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”
This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Howard Basketball Guard Bryce Harris.
Harris has scored in double figures in ten straight games, scoring at least 14 points in each game during that stretch.
This past week, Harris put together two tremendous performances.
First, in Monday’s road win over Coppin State, the junior out of Brentwood, NY scored 18 points and hauled in 15 rebounds to go align with 3 assists and 2 steals.
On Saturday, he followed it up with yet another double double, scoring 16 points and adding 14 rebounds in a 63-61 loss to Hampton in New Jersey.
The two performances were Harris’ fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season and his first back-to-back double-doubles this year.
Along with that, his 15 rebound and 14 rebound performances are his two highest rebounding totals in any game this season.
It’s been an up-and-down year thus far for Howard, which is coming off a MEAC regular season and conference tournament title a season ago.
Currently, the Bison sit 4th in the MEAC, with plenty of time to surge up the leaderboard and make a run in the conference tournament and get back to the Big Dance.
The DMV saw seven teams in action this past week, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the Maryland, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, and American basketball teams
Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
Maryland Guard Jahmir Young scored 31 points in 39 minutes in Saturday’s 63-54 loss on the road against Michigan State
American Forward Matt Rogers scored 23 points in back-to-back wins this past week, including a 23 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists performance in Saturday’s overtime win over Bucknell
