DMV Star of the Week - Kyle Kuzma

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Washington Wizards Forward Kyle Kuzma.

Though the Wizards are struggling early in the 2023 season, Kyle Kuzma has been a bright spot. The sixth year player out of Utah is averaging 22.8 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 3 APG through Washington’s first five games this year.

This past week, he scored 20+ points in all three Wizards games, including 21 against Boston, 25 against Atlanta, and 22 against Miami.

Unfortunately for Washington, they lost all three of those games.

For a team that will likely struggle throughout the year, Kuzma will be the go-to scoring option and should put up good numbers like he has early in the year.

The DMV saw five teams in action this past week, including the Washington Commanders, Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the Maryland and Howard football teams

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • Commanders Running Back Brian Robinson rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s 20-17 win over New England

  • Howard Quarterback Quinton Williams threw for 193 yards and 2 touchdowns in Saturday’s 27-24 loss to South Carolina State

  • Commanders Quarterback Sam Howell threw for 325 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s win over the Patriots
