Once upon a time, George Washington was 14-3, off to its best start in eight years, and in 3rd place in the Atlantic 10.

That was before the Revs started losing and the injuries started piling up.

Flash forward to March 6: It’s senior day in Foggy Bottom, but a somber one. GW will honor James Bishop IV, Babatunde Akingbola, and Antoine Smith on senior night, but they all would have hoped the season had gone much different than this.

GW has lost 12 straight games and has plummeted to the bottom of the Atlantic 10 standings. Now, with just two games left before the Revs head to Brooklyn for the A10 Tournament, there’s not much to play for besides pride.

The latest GW blemish came this past Saturday against La Salle. Chris Caputo only used six players in the game, mainly due to the absence of key starters, Maximus Edwards and Garrett Johnson.

Outstanding freshman Darren Buchanan, who won A10 Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this year, led GW with 21 points to go along with 6 rebounds in the loss.

At this point, GW simply does not have nearly enough quality depth to compete consistently, as has been proven by the 12 game losing streak.

For Chris Caputo, a long offseason with many challenges lies ahead, none more important than replacing the production of James Bishop IV and adding more depth so that when the injury bug strikes, it doesn’t derail another future season.

  • Head Coach: Mark Schmidt (17th season, 300-223 record at St. Bonaventure)

  • Record: 18-10 (9-7, 6th in Atlantic 10)

  • Last Time Out: Won vs. Loyola Chicago 79-64 on 2/27/24

  • Player to Watch: Charles Pride

With two games to go, St. Bonaventure remains in the thick of things in the A10, and the league's two worst teams remaining on its schedule.

On Wednesday, the Bonnies travel to D.C. to take on GW before the regular season finale on Saturday against Saint Louis.

For Mark Schmidt's squad, the focus is to improve its conference record before the league's tournament in Brooklyn next weekend and potentially secure one of the coveted double byes and play the first game on Friday, needing to just win three in a row to make the NCAA Tournament.

The Bonnies have won 7 of its last 10, with a chance to make it four straight wins entering the A10 Tournament. If they can do that and build some palpable momentum heading to Brooklyn, they'll be a very dangerous out in a league that will surely put together an all-time tournament.
