  • Player to Watch: Jayden Epps

Georgetown’s sophomore transfer from Illinois, Jayden Epps, has been having a field day in the early part of the season for the Hoyas.

Epps has scored 30+ points in each of the last two games for Georgetown, pouring in 31 against American and 34 against Jackson State on Saturday.

Those two 30+ point performances equal the amount of 30+ point games by any Georgetown player over the past five seasons.

In Epps, the Hoyas have found their go-to option offensively.

Where Georgetown needs to tighten up is on the defensive side of the ball. The Hoyas rank in the top 100 in the nation in scoring, but on defense they’ve struggled, ranking 193rd nationally by giving up 72 points per game.

Before the competition of the Big East regular season, Georgetown’s defense will have to stiffen up if they want to hang in the country’s toughest conference.

Looking ahead, the Hoyas face TCU and Syracuse after Wednesday’s game against Merrimack and only have one more ‘tune up’ game against Coppin State on December 12.

Other than that, it’s tough competition from here on out for Georgetown in 2023-24.

  • Head Coach: Joe Gallo (8th season, 125-90 record at Merrimack)

  • Record: 3-4 (0-0, 3rd in NEC)

  • Last Time Out: Lost vs. Alabama State 66-60 on 11/25/23

  • Player to Watch: Adam Clark

Merrimack College made its Division I debut at the start of the 2019-2020 season, ending the year 20-11 overall and 14-4 in the NEC.

Then COVID happened.

Since, Head Coach Joe Gallo and his squad have yet to have a season of equal success. In fact, the Warriors have only finished above .500 once in the three seasons since the COVID year.

So far in 2023, Merrimack is 3-4 and comes into Georgetown having lost its last two games by single digits to both Samford and Alabama State.

The Warriors’ best player is the 5’10” freshman Adam Clark. The Philly native is averaging 13.6 points per game and is 7th in the nation with 2.4 steals per game. He’s also an astounding 50% shooter, and interestingly has not taken a three point shot this season.

The matchup between Clark and Georgetown’s Jayden Epps should be the one to watch on Wednesday night at Capital One Arena.
