The vibes outside the TD Garden, weren't as high as I anticipated them to be. Win or go home in Boston's title town, a city that the last time they were in this position, watched the St.Louis Blues defeat the Bruins in the same building back in 2019. Not many rowdy fans, couple golf claps here and there, just a collection of people that were certain this series was going to 7.
They couldn't have been more off. Boston came out firing in the first quarter, as the Garden crowd began to awaken. A quick 14-2 lead was soon diminished, as the Warriors responded with a 35-8 run that stretched into the second quarter. The silence returned when Golden State commanded a 22 point lead.
The C's were outscored and outmatched, as proud fans turned sour into the second half as some booed the home team as they left the court. Despite 34 points behind Jaylen Brown, Tatum was not the finisher the team hoped for. The Celtics were battling themselves, committing 22 turnovers and possessing a 1-8 record this postseason when turning the ball over 16 times or more.
The miracle season that started at .500 after 50 games, comes to an end. With a young superstar core, they'll surely be back, I can guarantee it.
It's surprising that so many doubted the Warriors, even after all they accomplished in the past. They returned to glory after three years removed from losing Kevin Durant, their big three suffering major injuries, and creating a mini rebuild/retool. Coming in as +1200 favorites in the preseason, they quartet of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andre Igudola, and Steve Kerr claimed their 4th title in 8 years.
After 34 points tonight, and three other NBA Championships in his trophy cabinet, Steph Curry gets the last laugh (and the monkey off his back) winning his fourth ring and finally claiming the Finals MVP title.
What a series, and what a night of basketball.
