The Golf Report: US Open Week, Zim's Picks, and More

Golf Digest

Between difficult courses, star-studded grandstands, and exciting finishes, the US Open makes its case annually as the premier event on the golf calendar. As the 123rd Open begins today at the Los Angeles Country Club, Golf’s greatest event will be played through Golf’s craziest news cycle, from Jon Rahm’s dominance to the LIV-PGA Tour merger.

Since my picks have been on point this year, let’s run through a new segment I like to call “Zim’s Picks”

Zim’s Picks

Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook

Brooks Koepka (+1200 Outright Win, +125 Top 10 Finish)

The most recent major champ with a T2 finish at this year’s Masters, Koepka is my pick for outright winner. This would be his third US Open win, his most recent title coming in 2018 at Shinnecock Hills.

Scottie Scheffler (+600 Outright Win, -150 Top 10 Finish)

When he’s on, Scheffler is the best all-around golfer in the world, but recently, he has not been the guy we saw dominate last year. His putts simply are not falling in 2023. The work he’s putting in to overcome this struggle has been made pretty public, so I’d imagine he finishes in the top 10.

Matthew Fitzpatrick (+3500 Outright Win, +320 Top 10 Finish)

As the reigning US Open Champ, I feel like we should throw some money on Fitzy to finish in the top 10, but his poor play as of late has me steering clear of taking him to go back-to-back.

Jon Rahm (+900 Outright Win, +105 Top 10 Finish)

Rahm is the best player in the world right now, and has had a great 2023 so far. With a win at the Masters, I can’t see why he won’t be at least a Top 5 guy (current Top 5 Odds: +210).
